Weight loss recipe – Horse gram curry | How to make horse gram rasam or soup| മുതിരച്ചാറു പുളി
Step 1
Ingredients
- Horse gram – 1 cup
- Water – 5 to 7 cups
- Salt – as needed
Preparation
Dry roast the horse gram till crispy. The colour will become darker also. Boil the roasted horse gram by adding water and salt as needed. After cooking, drain the water and save the horse gram for making another recipe like subzi, thoran, sundal etc…
Step 2
Ingredients
- Fresh coconut – ¾ cup (grated)
- Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Black pepper powder – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – ½ tsp
- Water – ½ cup
Preparation
Grind all the above ingredients to a fine smooth paste.

Ingredients
- Tamarind – lemon sized (soaked in 1 cup of water)
- Coconut oil – 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp
- Shallots – 5 nos (chopped)
- Dried red chilly – 3 nos
- Curry leaves – few
- Salt – as needed
Preparation
Into a pot take the drained water (step 1) along with few cooked horse gram. Drained water will be around 3 to 4 cups. It is fine if it is more or lesser than mentioned. You can add water to adjust the consistency. Add the ground coconut mix (step 2) into it. Add the juice of the soaked tamarind, salt as needed and curry leaves. Mix well and bring it to boil. Into a heated pan add oil. Once the oil is hot add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds. When the seeds start to pop add shallots, dried chilly and curry leaves. Saute till onion turns crispy. Add this tempered mix to the boiling curry. Horse gram curry is ready.
