Curd Oats

Oats can be made into a tasty dish with curd or yogurt, that too in about 5 minutes !! Try this nutritious Oatmeal dish prepared just like the thayir sadam or curd rice, the famous South Indian rice dish. Curd Oats are known in different places under different names like thayir oats, oats khichdi, bagalabath, savory oats etc – let it be in any format, oats offers high soluble fiber apart from other nutrients. Curd or yogurt used also can be varied like hung curd or greek yogurt for making it more healthy.
There are different oatmeat recipes to try, like, Oats Egg scrambled. Oats puttu (oats steamed cake), Oats dosa and Oats – Garden cress smoothie. These dishes can be made part of the diet plan for low carbohydrate dishes or for special diabetic meals.
Ingredients for Curd oats – Easy breakfast with oatmeal
- Oats – 1/2 cup
- Curd – 1 cup
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Dried red chilli – 2 nos
- Ginger – 1 tsp(finely chopped)
- Green chilli – 1 (finely chopped)
- Curry leaves – few
- Raisins – few
- Pomegranate seeds – few
- Asafoetida – 1 pinch
- Milk – up to 1 cup
- Salt – as needed
Preparation of Curd Oats
Heat a pan, add oil into it. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds and wait till it pops. Then add dried red chillies, chopped ginger, chopped green chilli and few curry leaves. Saute for about 20 seconds. Then add oats and milk/water, cover and cook for few minutes or till well cooked. The cooking time and the amount of milk / water needed will vary as per the type of the oats used. Once the oats are cooked well, add raisins (Raisins can be added along with ginger also) and a pinch of asafoetida. Then mix well. Cook for a minute more.
In a bowl, take the curd. You can use hung curd or Greek yogurt or even labneh as a healthy choice. Then Whisk the curd well. After that add salt as needed. Now add the cooked oats into it and mix well. Finally garnish with pomegranate seeds. Curs oats is ready to serve.
Note : If you are planning to make the curd oats a lunch box recipe, add a mix of milk and curd instead of pure curd, as this will avoid the dish from being too sour by afternoon.
